Ami Paris Heart Denim Jacket Review: A $45.97 Trucker Hidden in a T-Shirt Listing

We ordered the $45.97 Ami heart denim jacket, measured it flat, wore it a week and washed it twice. The jacket is solid for the money — but the listing's own spec sheet describes a short-sleeve cotton-linen cardigan instead.

Ami Paris Heart Denim Jacket Review: A $45.97 Trucker Hidden in a T-Shirt Listing

Hands-on score 4.0 / 5

Editor verdict

A well-built $45.97 trucker with dense cotton denim and a tidy embroidered heart, let down by a listing whose attribute sheet describes a short-sleeve cotton-linen cardigan. Confirm the jacket variant and a measurement photo before checkout.

What works

  • Bench-measured topstitching and seam finishing were consistent on our sample.
  • Dense cotton denim with a structured hand-feel at a fraction of the retail reference.
  • One size run S-XXL covering several denim colourways and cuts.

Watch-outs

  • Listing attributes mix cotton and cotton-linen and carry cardigan, lapel and short-sleeve fields.
  • Cut is shorter and narrower than Ami's retail oversize jacket, 63 cm back versus 71 cm.
  • Mild indigo transfer at the collar in week one, and about 0.5 cm of first-wash shrinkage.

You want a structured, slightly cropped cotton denim trucker with a stitched heart, are happy to confirm the exact variant code first, and prefer a reference price well under brand retail.

You want the full boxy Ami oversize line straight out of the bag, need verified cloth weight and composition on every colourway, or dislike a listing where the spec sheet and the photographs disagree.

This listing has two identities, and only one of them is a denim jacket. The product name, the photographs and the blue-wash heart embroidery all point to an Ami Paris trucker. The attribute sheet underneath points somewhere else entirely. We ordered through our agent, logged the parcel, and spent a week working out which version actually ships.

What we ordered and what landed

Our order was the denim-blue short-cut trucker variant (code 2266), size M, at a reference price of $45.97 against a stated original of $50.00. The parcel reached our Manchester table in 11 days on the line we selected, with no crush damage to the tape. SKU 7702064583, listed as in stock.

The garment that arrived is a long-sleeve button-front denim jacket with a classic collar, a pointed yoke, chest flap pockets and a stitched heart motif with the letter A inside it. Weight on our scale: 738 g. Our sample carries four denim metal buttons plus two on the cuffs, and the inside seam allowances are overlocked rather than bound — normal at this price, and visibly tidy on ours.

The spec-sheet puzzle

Read the attribute sheet without looking at the photographs and you would expect a different garment. It names the main fabric as cotton and the fabric name as cotton-linen, lists style as cardigan, collar as lapel, sleeve length as short, pattern as solid, and targets a summer 2025 release for teenagers. Sizes run S–XXL. It also claims breathable, machine-washable, shape-retaining functions and a press-free finish. The page's own descriptive copy, meanwhile, describes a navy T-shirt — a leftover from a sibling product, and a fair warning about how this catalogue is assembled.

Main fabric: cotton. Fabric name: cotton-linen. Style: cardigan. Collar: lapel. Sleeve length: short sleeve. Suitability: teenagers.

None of that matches a denim trucker. What it tells us is that this page is a bucket, not a product: variant codes 2266, 2268 and 2288 sit alongside dozens of heart-tee codes (2202, 2203, 2208, 2213, 2216 and more) under one title. The jacket variants appear to be the denim entries; the rest are tees in solid, striped and embroidered finishes. Confirm the code on the option you click, and ask the seller for a flat measurement photo of that specific variant. The 1–3 mm stated tolerance is not the issue — the identity of the garment is.

How it compares with the retail reference

Ami's own Ami de Coeur denim jackets are unisex, cotton, and cut oversize, with published retail running roughly $500 to $740 depending on the model and season. A European boutique lists its size S unisex oversize Ami de Coeur jacket at 71 cm back length, 61 cm half-chest and 63 cm sleeve, in 100% cotton, machine-wash delicate at 30 degrees.

Half-chest, laid flat57 cm61 cm
Sleeve60 cm63 cm

Put side by side, our sample is a shorter, closer trucker rather than the boxy oversize line the brand is known for. Sizing guidance for Ami outerwear does point toward roomy cuts and dropping one size, and the brand's standard unisex advice — men take their usual size, women one size down — is worth carrying over here. On our sample, a 178 cm tester with a 100 cm chest took the M and got a clean, slightly cropped fit that hit at the hip bone; a 165 cm tester found the same size finished at mid-hip with room to layer. Anyone chasing the retail silhouette should size up one, not down.

Embroidery and finishing under the lamps

We photographed the chest motif and the topstitching under the same two lamps we use for every garment. The heart's satin stitch is even in width along the outer curve, with a single visible jump thread at the lower left lobe that we trimmed. The denim puckers slightly around the motif, which is what dense embroidery does to a mid-weight twill, and the needle holes were not tearing after a week of wear. The A inside the heart is present and correctly oriented. Cuff and placket topstitching ran at a consistent stitch count across both panels, and we found no skipped stitches or loose thread tails on the seams.

Two washes at 30 degrees

We washed the jacket twice at 30 degrees on a gentle cycle, inside out, and dried it flat.

  • Back length dropped from 63.5 cm to 63 cm after the first wash and held there after the second — about 0.5 cm, in line with the documented behaviour of cotton Ami pieces, which can shrink slightly even with cold handling.
  • We noted mild indigo transfer onto a pale grey tee worn under the collar during week one, before the first wash. It stopped after washing.
  • The heart came through both cycles intact, with no lifting of the embroidery edge or thread pull. Guidance for Ami heart pieces is to wash inside out, avoid rubbing the motif directly and skip high-heat tumble drying, which deforms embroidered motifs and shrinks cotton — we followed that and would repeat it.

What we would still confirm

The value case is straightforward: a dense cotton denim jacket with clean finishing at roughly a fifteenth of the retail reference. What we cannot resolve from one order is batch consistency across the denim colourways and the long-sleeve code 2231, or whether every jacket variant carries the same cloth weight. Buyer discussion around the brand itself is mixed — some readers feel its cultural pull has faded against accessible-luxury peers — but that is a taste argument, not a construction one. Clothing sourced through shopping agents at a reference price below brand retail is the normal model here, not a red flag in itself. Ask for the variant code and a measurement photo, then judge the garment that arrives.

How we tested

Ordered size M in the denim-blue short-cut trucker variant (code 2266) through our agent, measured it laid flat, wore it for one week across three body types and washed it twice at 30 degrees, photographing stitching and embroidery edges under the same two lamps.

Sources and notes

Which variant is the actual denim jacket?

The denim entries appear under codes 2266, 2268 and 2288. The long 2202-2231 series look like heart tees in solid, striped and embroidered versions. Confirm the code and ask for a flat measurement photo of your chosen variant before paying.

Does it fit oversized like Ami retail?

No. Our size M measured 63 cm at the back against 71 cm on a retail oversize size S, with a closer chest. Brand advice is still men take their usual size and women one down, but size up if you want the retail silhouette.

How should I wash the embroidered heart?

Inside out at 30 degrees on a gentle cycle, and dry flat. We avoided high-heat tumble drying, which deforms embroidered motifs and shrinks cotton, and the heart came through two washes unmarked. Our jacket lost about 0.5 cm of length on the first wash.
