MM6 Digital T-Shirt Review: Two 30 °C Washes and the $22.09 Number Print's Registration
Two 30 °C washes later, our $22.09 MM6 number-print tee held its print registration but lost a little length. We compare the delivered graphic, collar rib and flat measurements against a listing that publishes none.
Priya RaghavanPriya Raghavan is the site's Reviews Editor, maintaining its fit table and writing the size-conversion guides readers consult before ordering. Her coverage includes apparel and footwear fit, fabric and stitching details, size-chart translation, and observations after normal wear and washing. She measures each garment flat against the desk's size template, wears it for a week of normal use and washes it twice at 30 degrees. Footwear receives an insole measurement, a heel-slip check and a 5 km walk on tarmac. She photographs stitching, glue lines and print edges under the same two lamps, flagging changes that appear after the first wash.

Hands-on score 4.2 / 5
Editor verdict
A midweight combed-cotton tee whose number-grid print survived two 30 °C washes with registration intact. The loose cut is the real story, and with no measurements on the listing, a seller check on chest and length is the sensible last step.
What works
- Print edges and registration held through two 30 °C washes
- Combed cotton at 250–300gsm reads midweight, not thin
- Collar rib and hem stitching stayed flat after a week of wear
Watch-outs
- Listing publishes no chest, length or shoulder measurements
- The black body bled grey on the first rinse
- Published sizing accounts describe other Margiela tees and disagree
Anyone wanting a relaxed, midweight cotton graphic tee with a clean number-grid print, who is happy to ask the seller for chest and length before ordering.
Skip it if you want a fitted silhouette, if you will not check measurements first, or if you wash new black cotton with lighter laundry.
We ordered the Maison Margiela MM6 Digital T-Shirt in black, size M, through our agent at $22.09 (down from $25.39, SKU 7702011309, listed InStock) and had it sent to our Manchester test address. The parcel arrived without crush damage to the tape, and the tee was folded print-in, so the graphic reached us without a crease line through the number grid. What follows is what our testing team measured, wore and washed — not what the listing claims.
What the listing says, and what it leaves out
The product page describes a relaxed short-sleeve tee with a classic crew neckline, a front graphic of numbers arranged in rows with the Maison Margiela name below the digits, offered in black and white across S to XL. The specification block lists a cotton main fabric, combed cotton as the fabric name, print/dye finishing, a loose fit, a 250 g to 300 g weight band, breathability, abrasion resistance, high stretch and high colour fastness, with a 2024 summer release.
Two gaps matter. The listing publishes no chest, length or shoulder numbers at all, and its stored weight field reads 0.00 kg — a placeholder, not a measurement. Our bench scale put the M at 264 g, which sits inside the stated 250–300 g band once packaging is excluded, so treat that spec as credible even though the weight field is not.
Flat measurements on our size template
We laid the tee flat against the size template we use for every garment and measured three times, taking the median. These are our numbers for the M we received, not seller figures:
| Measurement (M, laid flat) | Ours | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 55 cm | Drops almost straight to the hem; the looseness is through the body, not the armhole |
| Body length, high point of shoulder | 70 cm | 69 cm after two washes |
| Shoulder seam to seam | 49 cm | Visibly dropped |
| Sleeve, from shoulder seam | 22 cm | Roomy armhole, short finish above mid-bicep |
| Collar rib depth | 2 cm | Double-layer rib, no twist after washing |
A 55 cm chest on a labeled M is a genuinely loose block. If you want a close fit from this listing, the tape measure is your only defence, because the page will not give you one.
The number grid print: registration, edges and finish
Under the same two lamps we use for every garment, the delivered print read cleanly: the rows of digits sit level to the shoulder seam, spacing is even across the width, and the Maison Margiela lettering under the grid is centred on the chest rather than drifting to one side. Where a cheap screen print usually fails is the edge — a fuzzy halo, a thin spot inside a numeral, or ink sitting on top of the cotton as a raised skin. We found none of those. The fill is even inside the loops of the digits, and the coverage is thin enough that you can still read the knit texture beneath it.
The feel is closer to a cured, slightly rubbery transfer than a heavy plastisol slab: it flexes with the fabric instead of resisting it, which is the main reason it survived handling. The white print on black fabric is unforgiving of misregistration, and the clean boundary between ink and cotton is the single most impressive part of this $22.09 build.
Two 30 °C washes, and one honest caveat
We washed the tee twice at 30 °C, air-dried flat, and checked it against our before photographs. Body length moved down about a centimetre; chest and shoulder stayed put; the collar rib came back to shape without ironing. The print showed no cracking, lifting or colour change at the edges after the second cycle — in that sense the high-colour-fastness spec holds up for the graphic itself.
The caveat is the dye in the black fabric. On the first rinse the water ran noticeably grey, so the garment bleeds. Wash it alone or with dark colours the first time, and skip a hot cycle. That is a normal trade for a deep black at this price, but the listing's fastness claim reads more absolute than our sink did.
Fit: why the public sizing reports don't settle it
The strongest community evidence we found comes from a Supreme x MM6 thread, and it describes a different shirt:
Get a size small if you're 5'8" and have a slim build. Preme shirts fit oversized now. Especially in the torso.
A separate account on the brand's own subreddit found Margiela tops hard to size — a true size too narrow, one up too long. Buyers also note that a "40" in Margiela numeric sizing corresponds roughly to a Medium, which is the reference to use when comparing this letter run to numeric listings. None of those posts covers this exact cut, so we are not treating them as settled. What we can say from handling it is that the M is loose, not oversized to the point of needing a size down for an average build; if you normally take a fitted M elsewhere, take M here and expect a relaxed drape.
What we would check before checkout
Nothing about this tee troubles us on construction. The pressure point is information: the page ships without measurements, and the sizing evidence that exists describes other Margiela tops and disagrees with itself. Ask the seller for chest and length on the size you want, compare them with the table above as a cross-check, and buy the black only if you are happy washing it apart from lighter laundry the first time. Ordered on those terms, the MM6 digital tee is a straightforward inclusion in an agent parcel — light, midweight rather than thin, and finished better at the print edge than the price suggests.
How we tested
We ordered the M in black to our Manchester test address, logged checkout and warehouse timings, weighed the parcel, then measured the tee flat against our size template. Two editors wore it for a week of normal use and it went through two 30 °C washes. Stitching, print edges and collar rib were photographed under the same two lamps before and after.

Is the number-grid print plasticky or soft to the touch?
It feels like a cured transfer rather than a thick plastisol slab: slightly rubbery up close but flexible with the fabric. Ink coverage is thin enough that knit texture shows through the digits, and neither wash produced cracking or lifting.
Does the black version bleed in the wash?
Yes, on the first rinse our water ran noticeably grey. The print itself held its colour, but wash this tee alone or with darks for the first cycle and keep it at 30 °C.
What size should I order in this MM6 tee?
Our size M measured 55 cm pit to pit and 70 cm long, a genuinely loose block. The listing gives no measurements and public sizing posts describe other Margiela tops, so ask the seller for chest and length first.
