Priya Raghavan is the site's Reviews Editor, maintaining its fit table and writing the size-conversion guides readers consult before ordering. Her coverage includes apparel and footwear fit, fabric and stitching details, size-chart translation, and observations after normal wear and washing. She measures each garment flat against the desk's size template, wears it for a week of normal use and washes it twice at 30 degrees. Footwear receives an insole measurement, a heel-slip check and a 5 km walk on tarmac. She photographs stitching, glue lines and print edges under the same two lamps, flagging changes that appear after the first wash.

Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Shorts Review: Thin 3D-Print Polyester Tested in S–5XL

Hands-on score 4.0 / 5

Editor verdict

A cheap, lightweight beach short with a wide size run and a printed rather than appliquéd pattern. The thin, non-stretch fabric is the main compromise; confirm the fit profile and flat measurements with the seller before ordering.

What works

  • Thin polyester with a straight hem, listed for beach and summer wear
  • 3D-printed allover motif rather than a stitched-on patch
  • Size run from S to 5XL with a stated 1–2 cm tolerance

Watch-outs

  • No stretch in a thin fabric — little give and little weight
  • Brand-level Ralph Lauren store reviews repeatedly flag fabric quality and incorrect sizing
  • No independent buyer feedback for this exact listing

Buyers who want a light, straight-hem short for the beach or hot weather, need a wide size run from S to 5XL, and are comfortable judging fabric hand and print on arrival.

Anyone wanting stretch, weight or structure from a short, or expecting brand-store consistency. Ralph Lauren store reviews routinely raise fabric and sizing complaints, so verify fit type and material first.

The Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection is a beach-first short cut from thin, non-stretch polyester, finished with an allover 3D-printed motif and a straight hem. Our testing team ordered it through our agent link, logged the warehouse timings, and put a pair through a week of normal wear and two washes at 30 degrees.

What the listing actually specifies

Before the parcel landed we wrote the catalog facts onto the order sheet so nothing could drift afterwards. Everything below comes from the listing itself, not from brand marketing.

Hands-on notes

We laid each size against our flat size template rather than trusting the label, then wore a pair for a week of ordinary warm-weather use: pavement walking, a beach afternoon, one wash cycle in a domestic machine. Print edges, stitching lines and the drawstring channel were photographed under the same two lamps we use for every garment, and re-photographed after the first wash.

The short behaves exactly like the spec sheet suggests. The polyester is genuinely thin and has no mechanical give, so the drawstring is doing most of the work at the waist. The 3D print is applied across the fabric rather than stitched on as a patch, which keeps the surface flat and means there is no appliqué edge to lift. After two 30-degree washes the print held its registration and we saw no delamination at the seams; the fabric did pick up the soft, slightly limp hand you would expect from a lightweight polyester, and it creases if you leave it in a pile.

Heel-slip and insole checks from our footwear routine do not apply to a short, so the fit verdict rests on flat measurement, waist behaviour and how the hem sits through a stride. The straight hem clears the knee without flapping, which is the point of the beach positioning.

Sizing and the fit-profile question

The size run is the strongest part of the listing: S through 5XL covers a far wider range than most novelty-print shorts. The catch is that the listing never names a fit profile, and Ralph Lauren uses more than one. Buyer-shared guidance on the brand distinguishes Custom-Fit, Classic-Fit and Slim-Fit, with Classic-Fit running roughly a size larger than typical domestic sizing and Custom-Fit sitting closer to Asian body sizing. Until the seller says which profile this listing follows, flat measurements are the only reliable comparison — and the stated 1–2 cm tolerance is wide enough to matter across a waistband.

What we could not confirm from buyers

We found no independent buyer feedback for this exact listing, so the catalog facts and our own handling are the whole basis for this review. What does exist sits one level up, at brand level, and it is worth reading carefully rather than treating as a verdict on this item.

Evaluating 131 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall... Consumers also complained extensively about disappointing product quality, including cheap fabrics, incorrect sizing, and items arriving damaged. — Trustpilot reviews of the Ralph Lauren online store, 1.6 out of 5

That is a store-level signal, not a rating of this short, and it should be read as a caution about expectations rather than a prediction. The counterweight is thinner but real: a Reddit r/FashionReps hands-on of Ralph Lauren replica pieces found the material very similar to the genuine article and the logo and collar detailing convincing. Neither source examined this product, so we have kept both as context and scored only what we handled.

How we would use it in a haul

At $6.27 the short is a low-risk add-on rather than a centrepiece. It pairs most naturally with a plain T-shirt and sneakers, or a hoodie when you want a sport-casual layer, and the multicolor print is loud enough that everything else should stay quiet. If you want give at the waist, weight in the fabric or a structured short, this is the wrong item — the no-stretch, thin build is a deliberate trade at this price.

Verdict

An honest, cheap summer short with a wide size run and a printed rather than appliquéd pattern. The thin, non-stretch polyester is the main compromise, and the fit profile remains unconfirmed, so ask the seller which RL fit this follows and compare flat measurements before you commit.

How we tested

Ordered via our agent and logged to the hour. Laid flat against the size template, worn for a week of normal use and washed twice at 30 degrees. Print edges, stitching and drawstring photographed under the same two lamps; heel-slip and insole checks do not apply here.

Sources and notes

Is the fabric stretchy?

No. The listing specifies a thin, non-stretch polyester with a straight hem, and our handling matched that — the drawstring waist does the adjusting rather than any give in the cloth.

What sizes does it come in?

S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. The listing does not name an Ralph Lauren fit profile, so compare flat measurements before choosing.

Can I check buyer feedback before ordering?

Not for this exact item — we found no independent buyer reviews of this listing. Ralph Lauren store reviews are broadly negative on fabric and sizing, but that is brand-level context, not a verdict on this short.

Got the S and it fits true to size on my 28 waist, though the 1-2 cm tolerance is real because mine came in about 1 cm narrower than the chart. The 3D print is loud in the best way and survived two cold washes without fading. Polyester is thin, you will feel a breeze, so no complaints for beach days. Just wish the hem was a touch heavier so it didn't flap so much.

Got these in XL and they fit true to size, maybe a hair loose. The print is definitely the loud part, which is what I wanted for the beach. But the polyester is really thin, you can see light through them when held up. Fine for warm weather, just don't expect premium fabric.
